block buster trades!!

Over the last 3 days Major League Baseball has been incredible to watch and follow. Players are getting money on top of money. The main free agent would have to be Albert Pujols who was just signed by the Angels. The contract is for 254 million dollars and he will be there for ten years. Another free agent that was signed to the Angels is C.J Wilson. He will receive 77.5 million dollars for 5 seasons. Eventough Pujols was offered 275 million by the Miami Marlins it was a good choice to go to the Angels. The mentality of that would be if he got to old to play first base he can be the designated hitter. Another thing that makes it better is that all of the Los Angeles Sports Teams are gearing up for the upcoming season. The Lakers are trying to get both Dwight Howard and Chris Paul. The Clippers have a young team but ESPN analyst are saying they will do good this season. The Dodgers are looking like the only team that will be a dissapointment. They did sign Matt Kemp and kept him as a Dodger but he wont be enough to reach a World Series Tittle. All these possible trades will be good for the Los Angeles fans. If Los Angeles does get a football team it will be a great time to be from Los Angeles. Alot of Jobs to be opening up. And alot of money to be made at sports bars and restaurants. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AviPfDVmVXjKJAFwfEPkP9URvLYF?slug=jp-passan_pujols_wilson_arte_moreno_angels_marlins_120811

santa delivers

There was a story in USA today that attracted a lot of peoples attention. It seems that now more then ever there is a need for Santa to deliver some presents. In a service by the post office called Operation Santa matches letters from needy children with donors in the community willing to fulfill their holiday wishes. Crystal Skipwith was one of the kids who 20 years ago got all her wishes fulfilled. She explains how "every child deserves to have a smile on their face." Pete Fontana who is the chief of Elf operations expects a record number of Santa letters from needy children. Most of the families are still struggling with the mest up economy. Just to give an example of how many letters are received their are about 5,000 letters received by the post office the day after thanksgiving. People who want to participate and adopt letters can do so by going to participating post offices. It is encouraged to go out and make a childs or a families christmas a one to remember.

Score!!! Drug Tunnel

An estimated 17 tons of marijuana was seized when their was a discovery of a cross-border tunnel that authorities said Wednesday was one of the most significant secret drug smuggling passages ever found on the U.S.-Mexico border. The tunnel that was found was said to measure around 400 yards long and it was used to link warehouses from Tijuana to San Diego. According to Derek Benner who is a  U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent the United States seized about nine tons of marijuana while on the other side of the tunnel Mexican authorities seized about eight tons. The tunnel walls were lined with wood supports that helped to keep the tunnels up. The passage was equipped with lighting and ventilation systems according to  Paul Beeson who is the chief of the Border Patrol's San Diego sector. The way that the discovery was made was becasue two men allegedly seen leaving the warehouse in a truck which was packed with about three tons of weed. They were eventually pulled over by CHP officers and the discovery was made.  http://news.yahoo.com/us-authorities-major-drug-tunnel-san-diego-185929368.html

Real or Fake?

A man visiting British Colombia’s Lake Okanagan claims he filmed video of what could only be the Canada's version of the Loch Ness monster. The video which is only about half a minute long shows two long ripples in the water in an area that seems to be somewhat deserted. Richard Huls was the man who captured the creature on video. Ogopogo is what they call the illusive monster. As with the story of the Loch Ness monster, the Ogopogo phenomenon dates back hundreds of years. it is described to be a serpent that might be 40 to 50 feet long. People say the lake has been searched but no evidence has been found.
These types of stories are always interesting to see because they cause a spark in the imagination of people around the world. It makes them think of what other things can be down their or that are unknown in this world. It takes the person from the problems of the real world to something unknown and mysterious.

Discipline or Abuse

A video of a father punishing his daughter has gotten thousands of hits on YouTube. People around the country have different ways of trying to discipline their kids but this man takes it way to far. The father County Court-at-Law Judge William Adams is caught on video beating his 16-year old daughter Hilary for almost seven minutes with a belt. Psychologist George Holden said, “People may find it fascinating because spanking is a part of our culture but this is clearly an incident where it’s gone way wrong.” Most people seeing the video agree. The daughter was being punished for using some type of illegal file sharing program on the internet. Being that it was his daughter he was not punished for the actions he took. But people investigating this case have stated if it was someone else then he would of gone to jail. Typical spankings are from two to five spanks with an open hand. Anything other then that in my opinion should be considered abuse. Who ever does it should be punished. yourlife.usatoday.com/parenting-family

Dodgers not to blame!!

According to Jerome Jackson who is representing the LA Dodgers as well as Frank McCourt in court,  the two men who almost beat Bryan Stow to death should be liable for potential millions of dollars and not the Dodgers. The two men who are accused of the beating have pleated not guilty each having a count of mayhem as well as assault by means likely to produce bodily injury. What is stunning by this idea is that Jackson is saying that Bryan Stow and the two attackers are the ones to blame not the Dodgers. The official  lawsuit  only blames the Dodgers  organization for  having, "poor lighting and security problems at the ballpark". (www.usatoday.com/sports) The story has gotten more exposure now since their is a possibility that McCourt will have to sell the team. If the team is sold who knows where the money is going to come from to pay for the lawsuit.

8 people killed

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-1013-seal-beach-shooting-20111013,0,4309220.storyThere was a deadly shooting in Seal Beach that left 8 people dead and wounded a 73 year old woman. The attacker who was identified as Scott Dekraai went in and shot 8 people at a hair salon. The intended person was his ex wife  Michelle Fournier. It seemed that they had a sloppy and ugly custody fight over their 8 year old son. She stated to one of her friends that she had a feeling he might want to kill her. Sure enough he did as well as as 7 other people. It is always tragic to see people killing one another but this guy didnt just kill his wife but took 7 other lives. Its leaving families with out fathers and mothers, and even brothers or sisters. The identities of the other victims have not been released yet. Even Michele's former husband Steve Huff  said, "It's just unfortunate that a mad man had to derail everybody like this," "This guy was just a loose cannon.. She wanted to get along." But there is always another side to the story, it seems that family of the shooter stated that he accused her of being an, "Uncaring, selfish drunk". This story leaves the son with no mother and no father. Just another child raised maybe by immediate family or friends.

Latino Families Suffering

It seems that studies done by The Pew Hispanic Center has come to the conclusion that Latino children are growing in poverty in high numbers in the city of Texas. A sociologist at the University of Houston said, "If 6 million kids are being brought up in poverty, that dosen't give them much hope for the future. They are likely to end up in poverty for the rest of their lives." This to me was shocking because the facts are that if a person is in poverty they have less opportunities to get ahead in life. They wont have the tools to be ahead in school. They will have to get low paying jobs to help the family and wont be able to persue a career for themselves. It is also true that hispanics tend to have large families where chances are they will always have high numbers in poverty. The article also states that Hispanics have a 11.1 percent unemployment rate compared with an overall rate of 9.1 percent. The article gives the facts on Latino families but the important thing in the article is that it states that education is the key to overcome. It is a hard road to go thru but it is possible. Most kids neglect school because no one at school motivates them. There parents are always working since most work two jobs to get the basics.  Both schools and parents need to help in this situations which is harder now since schools have had budget cuts and families have to keep changing jobs. www.chron.com/news

Corn sugar/ Corn syrup....

It seems that the Food and Drug Administration has cautioned the corn industry over its ongoing use of the term "corn sugar" to describe high fructose corn syrup. The Corn Refiners Association apperently want to use the term corn sugar instead of corn syrup to try and change the views of the product. It is well known that corn syrup is connected with diabetes, overweight people as well as other complications. Their attempt to change the name I believe wont change people from drinking it or not drinking it. If a person knows a soda is bad for you or anything that has high fructose corn syrup is bad they wont drink it. It's the persons choice to drink it or not. In a statement obtained by Barbara Schneeman it says, "We request that you re-examine your websites and modify statements that use the term `corn sugar' as a synonym for (high fructose corn syrup)," (Yahoo.com)finance.yahoo.com/news/AP-Exclusive-Official-slams-apf-2529890392.html?x=0 The main purpsoe of this story is to try and be on the same page and stop the confusion that society might have on these products. A soda is a soda and it is bad for you no matter what.

Ethier NO MORE!

It seems that Andre Ethier will not return to the Los Angeles Dodgers for the remainder of the season according to yahoo sports. The Dodgers out fielder who has been bothered by a knee problem has been shut down by manager Don Mattingly. Earlier this season Andre who had a 30 plus game hitting streak has become ice cold after the all star break and began to show his discomfort for the whole dodger financial problem. This a great opportunity for players such as Tony Gwynn Jr as well as Jerry Sands. As a true Dodger fan i say get rid of him!! I agree with 710 ESPN announcers on this one. I say "Do not give in to the drama just start off fresh". The Dodgers farm system has been able to produce a lot of players who have stepped up this season and shown what they can do. Plus everyone knows the Dodgers bad luck when it comes to signing these "kind" of players. They have a tendency to do poorly with us but go out and do great with other teams. Like I said just get rid of him.

FOLLOW NEWS

Most of the news watched or listened to by people over the world have to do with crime, death, money or sports. In my opinion I am attracted to stories that have to do with sports. These kind of stories always prove how athletes are seemed to be more superior and paid more then doctors and lawyers. They play a sport for a living and make up to millions of dollars doing so. But with money comes trouble. There have been a handful of players who have been caught up with drug possesions or cheating scandels that make the news all the time. The only reason why they are news is because they represent such a large coorporation. Television shows as well as radio shows always are the ones that announce and discuss these types of news. They are entertaining at one point but are not really news. Some of the examples would be the Kobe Bryant incident, The Shaq incident, Delonte West incident involving Lebron James mother and so on. To me thats not really news but it comes with the player. What is important is what they do in the games when they play. The biggest member of the "big contract world" would be Larry Fitzgerald who is getting paid  $120 Million Dollar Contract From Arizona Cardinals for 8 years.
